Canada’s New Immigration Pathway for Doctors inside Canada
Opportunities to Gain Permanent Residency and Strengthen Your Career. Canada has announced new measures under Budget 2025 to address critical labour shortages in the health sector by simplifying the pathway to permanent residence for international doctors. A new Express Entry category will be created for internationally trained doctors with at least one year of recent Canadian work experience, providing a clear and stable route to permanent residency. Invitations to apply under this category are expected to begin in early 2026. Canada will reserve 5,000 additional federal spaces for provinces to nominate licensed doctors with job offers, offering expedited 14-day work permits while they await permanent residence.
Eligibility: Internationally trained doctors with at least 12 months of Canadian work experience, including General Practitioners/Family Physicians, Specialists in Surgery, and Specialists in Clinical and Laboratory Medicine. Applicants must also meet the required language proficiency standards, such as IELTS or CELPIP.
Benefits: This program offers a dedicated Express Entry stream for doctors, providing a faster pathway to permanent residence. It includes 5,000 federally reserved permanent residence spots through provincial nominations and expedited work permits, allowing eligible applicants to begin working in Canada in approximately 14 days.
If you require guidance on this pathway program, we invite you to contact us. At Tarin Immigration Services, we remain committed to providing the highest level of service to our community.
